Why does bird poop leave a mark even after I clean it off?
Bird droppings can contain acids and digestive residues that attack paint as they dry, especially when heated by the sun. As the paint expands and contracts with temperature, the dried dropping can also imprint its shape into the surface. The remaining mark is often chemical etching in the clear coat rather than leftover contamination, which is why normal cleaning does not remove it. Shallow etching can usually be improved with light polishing, while deep marks may not be fully correctable without removing too much clear coat.
