Why has my ceramic coating stopped beading water?
Loss of beading does not always mean the coating has failed. In many cases only the coating's water-repellent top surface has been masked or worn, while the protective layer itself is still bonded to the paint. Road film, mineral deposits, detergent residue and other contamination can sit on top of the coating, change how water behaves and temporarily reduce hydrophobicity. A thorough wash followed by a decontamination step, such as an iron remover or a coating-safe mineral remover, often restores the original water behavior. If beading stays weak after the surface is genuinely clean, the coating may be worn, polished away or chemically damaged in that area.
