Can a clay bar scratch car paint?
Yes. Clay works by physically shearing bonded contamination from the surface, so some level of friction is unavoidable. Proper lubrication, clean media, a fine grade and light pressure reduce the risk, but soft paint can still develop fine scratches that may require polishing. Fold the clay often to expose a clean face, and inspect the paint as you work.
